Park Run Abbeyfeale
Dates on the park noticeboards →Páirc Cois Féile — “the park beside the Feale” — was bought by the people of Abbeyfeale in 1994 and built field by field through fundraisers, grants and voluntary work. Today it is a Green Flag Award park, cared for by volunteers, with wheelchair-accessible paths linking every corner.

The park's woodland, river, ponds and reed beds are a designated wildlife sanctuary. Look out for the species signs around the park — and keep dogs on leads so everyone on this list can stay.

From the wildflower meadow to the reed beds and the riverbank alders, the park is planted — and left wild — for pollinators, birds and people alike.
The Town Park idea begins at Leen's Hotel, from the vision of Dan Murphy — a survey had put a town park second only to a swimming pool on Abbeyfeale's wish list.
When the Dalton farm on the Killarney Road comes up for sale, the committee purchases around 30 acres. Dan Murphy, Tim Corkery and Mary O'Connor act as trustees.
The first FÁS Community Employment Scheme starts under supervisor Tommy O'Connor. Four years of fundraising follow — tree sales, dog nights, auctions and non-stop draws.
The park's first finished amenity opens — four years in the making.
Both playgrounds and the car park are upgraded with Limerick City & County Council; the FAI later earmarks the park for its astro-turf pitch.
Limerick City and County Council provides funding towards the park's public toilets.
A reflective space opens, its seating cut from stones of St Mary's — the 1846 “Famine Church” — around a centrepiece by stonemason Ruairí Dennison.
The 1916 Commemorative Garden opens for the centenary of the Rising; the Remembering Zoe group donates the zip wire and sensory garden.
Maintained by the voluntary committee and CE Scheme staff, Páirc Cois Féile holds the Green Flag Award and welcomes visitors every day of the year.
We walk the long loop every single morning. Rain or shine, it's the best part of our day.
The kids never want to leave — fairy doors, the zip line, and ducks to feed at the pond.
A credit to the volunteers. You'd travel a long way to find a community park kept this well.
I saw a heron, a little egret and a fox — all before breakfast. It's a proper wildlife sanctuary.
A free, friendly event for all ages — take on the 5 km, the 2.5 km, or the Kids Run. The route starts and finishes at the basketball court and follows the park's traffic-free loops under the trees and along the Feale. No times, no pressure. Keep an eye on the park noticeboards and local press for the next date.
